The New and Improved- BAGS

A few nights ago I saw my old riding buddy, Jacob, on my way home. I took the time to snap a few photos of Jacob's bags on feet, and his new innovations with bags. As any regular reader of my blog knows, Bags on Feet are my favorite way to keep my feet warm and dry. Here you can see that Jacob is using his recycled plastic grocery bags- a good choice with clipless pedals as they are thin enough to avoid interfering with the binding mechanism.

I must give Jacob full credit for his development of Bags on Hands. Jacob has tested many variations on bags on hands and prefers regular lightweight clear plastic vegetable grocery bags for his hands as they allow "more mobility" a factor very important with hands as opposed to feet.

Jacob is also in the process of developing the garbage bag windbreaker. As you can see here, Jacob also used a bag to protect his torso from the piercing winds common on Chicago's winter lake front.

I asked Jacob if he planned on marketing his Bags on Hand or Bag on Torso, but he made it clear that he would seek no financial gain from his developments. He only wants to educate other cyclists on how to economically use a bicycle for transportation in any type of weather.

Ride on Jacob. You may look homeless to some people, but there will always be others who will appreciate the incredible wisdom of your ways.

Plastic bags are definitely the way to go: plentiful, easy to find & free! Plus you're "reusing" which ranks above "recycling."

I've been testing the use of plastic bags vs. traditional face masks which can cost upwards of $80.

In fact, I'm wearing one right now. I've been experimenting with smaller ventalation holes to keep the warm air. in.
